Mangatepōpō Valley & Soda Springs
Easy 6.0 kmreturn 2 hr return ↑ 390 m
A cold spring seeping from the base of a lava flow, surrounded by alpine wildflowers in summer.
At the head of the Mangatepōpō Valley, water emerges from under the lava to feed a tiny mossy waterfall and a patch of yellow buttercups and white foxgloves in summer. It is the end of the easy section of the Crossing and the start of the Devil’s Staircase.
❄ Snow in the upper valley from June to September.
