Scoria cone

The walk

The route up the loose scoria of the cone is unmarked, dangerous (rockfall from parties above) and culturally offensive to the iwi for whom the summit is tapu. This site does not recommend it; the best views of the mountain are from Red Crater, South Crater, the Upper Tama viewpoint and the Ridge Track.

Start. South Crater
